Kelvin is no ordinary baker.

In 2012, tragedy struck when he suffered a stroke so severe it rendered his left hand and arm entirely defective. Although the future loomed with clouds of uncertainty, he managed to seek out a silver lining in the storm. Two years later, he received a mixer machine as a birthday gift.

 

This was his Eureka moment.

 

Initially, the days that transpired after the stroke were excruciating. On top of grieving the loss of a limb, Kelvin had to rapidly learn how to perform tasks again with just his right arm and hand. It took him a long 15 months before he was fully independent again. Prior to this incident, he was a great lover of all things culinary, be it eating or preparing food, but this setback posed new challenges. Things could never be executed as easily as before, and at times it was as though the struggle was a losing fight. 

 

Fortunately, the mixer machine was a positive turning point. Seeing its potential, Kelvin decided to put it to good use. As he began dabbling in baking, what started as a casual pastime burgeoned into a genuine love for the craft. On top of being therapeutic, Kelvin gains satisfaction and a sense of fulfillment watching raw ingredients such as flour, eggs and butter transform into delicious, fluffy creations. The most heartwarming part of the process is knowing that his effort brings lip-smacking joy to those around him!

 

Kelvin has lightheartedly identified himself as ‘One-Handed Baker’, hence the condensed branding of OHBaker. His popular cheesecakes are inspired by Tokyo’s top selling cheesecakes, which are synonymous with their rich, dense and creamy texture. 

 

This experience has humbled Kelvin and taught him to be more resilient in times of adversity. He hopes to convey the message of being kinder to oneself through his yummy goods.
